You can connect Claude to GoHighLevel in about five minutes, for free, using the official MCP server. Once it is connected, Claude can read and write your CRM in plain language: look up a contact, summarize their last five conversations, find stuck opportunities, draft the follow-up. The connection is the easy part. What you point it at is where the hours come back.
Most operators I talk to are still doing this work by hand. The thing that does the work is the official GoHighLevel MCP server. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. Think of it as a standard plug that lets an AI tool talk to an app's data safely, without you writing any code.
GoHighLevel runs one at https://services.leadconnectorhq.com/mcp/. It is free with any GoHighLevel plan. There is no separate MCP charge. You still pay for GoHighLevel and for Claude, but the bridge between them costs nothing.
It ships with 36 official tools today, up from 21 earlier in the year. Those tools cover contacts, conversations, opportunities, calendars, payments, blogs, email templates, and social posts. GoHighLevel has said the roadmap goes past 250 tools, so the surface area only grows from here. In plain terms: Claude can look up and tag contacts, read and send messages, move deals between pipeline stages, read your calendar, and draft content straight into GoHighLevel.
The five-minute setup
Two pieces of information connect Claude and GoHighLevel: a token and your location ID.
First, the token. In your GoHighLevel sub-account, go to Settings, then Private Integrations, then Create New Integration. Give it the scopes you actually need to start:
- View Locations
- View and Edit Contacts
- View and Edit Conversations
- View and Edit Opportunities
- View Calendars
- View Custom Fields
Add the optional scopes (Blogs, Email templates, Social, Payments) later, only when a job needs them. Generate the token. It starts with "pit-". Copy it now, because GoHighLevel will not show it to you again.
Second, the location ID. It lives in Settings, then Business Profile. Copy it. The location ID header is now optional, so you can also just tell Claude the location in a prompt, but setting it once is cleaner.
Now hand both to Claude. If you use Claude Desktop, open Settings, then Developer, then Edit Configuration, and add this block:

Restart Claude. Ask it "list my most recent GoHighLevel contacts." If names come back, you are connected. No code, no Zapier tax, no third-party connector in the middle.
The three things worth building first
A connection is not the point. Here is where the manual hours actually are, in the order I would tackle them.
Pipeline hygiene on command. Ask Claude to find every opportunity stuck past 14 days and draft the follow-up for each one. It reads the opportunities, reads the conversation history, and writes the nudge in your voice. You skim and approve. The deals that quietly rot in a pipeline are the most expensive thing in a small business, and this is the one job that pays for the whole setup.
Contact intelligence before a call. "Summarize this lead's last five conversations" turns a five-minute scroll into a three-sentence brief. You walk into the call already knowing what they asked, what you promised, and where you left off.
Content drafted into GoHighLevel, not into a doc you then re-paste. With the blog, email, and social scopes on, Claude can draft a post or an email template as a draft inside GoHighLevel for you to review. The work lands where it is going to be used.
Notice none of these are "let the AI run the business." Every one ends with you approving the output. That is the design, and it matters.
The one guardrail that keeps this safe
Three rules keep it boring in the good way:
- Start with the minimum scopes. Give the token only what the first job needs. Add more later. An over-permissioned token is the thing you will regret.
- Test in a sandbox sub-account first. Point it at fake contacts and watch what it does before it touches live data.
- Require your approval on anything bulk. Draft-and-approve, never fire-and-forget, on messages, blog posts, and stage moves.
Two more housekeeping habits: rotate the token every 90 days, and never reuse one token across sub-accounts. Both take a minute and save you a bad afternoon.
Official server or community server?
The official MCP server is the right starting point for almost everyone. It is hosted by GoHighLevel, it is free, and there is nothing to maintain.
There are also open-source community servers you can self-host that expose more tools than the official 36. They give you more surface area, and in exchange you host and maintain the thing yourself. Start official. Move to a community server only when you have hit a specific wall the official tools cannot clear. Most operators never hit it.
